Hendon WFC History
The club now known as Hendon WFC were formed around 20 years ago as a 5 a side team. Camden All Stars started as a girl's session at the Winchester Project; a youth and community centre based in Swiss Cottage. It wasn't until the 1988/89 season that the club took their first steps into the 11 a side game, affiliating to the Greater London Women's League as Winchester All Stars.
The club had it's best season three years later, clinching the Division Three Championship and promotion under the leadership of Lily La Bonte, despite being plagued by injuries, and two seasons later promotion to Division One followed.
For the 1995/96 season, a merger took place with Ealing WFC who were formed in 1972 as Gallagher Ladies. They were the League's first women's champions and were proud to have players capped for England in their championship winning squad.
Two years later, Winchester and Ealing WFC joined Hendon FC for the first time, and were to become Hendon's first venture into the women's game. The club enjoyed two years with the Ryman League club and in that time established a reserve team who were runners-up in Reserve Division Two. Meanwhile, the first team won the Highfield Cup against strong opposition from clubs around the country, beating premier and national division teams to the silverware. However, in 1999 we ended our good relations with Hendon FC to become Barnet Copthall WFC.
As Barnet Copthall WFC, the club were moved into the Premier Division by the League now playing against teams such as Tottenham and Leyton Orient. The club re-amalgamated with Hendon FC a year ago, and have been undertaking plans to develop a strong youth section while developing links with the local community, while improving the first team's on the pitch record with a top half finish in the Premier Division last season.
